Plan Lies of P games in order here—Neowiz / Round8’s Belle Époque souls-like twist on Pinocchio. Release follows US ship dates: Lies of P (September 19, 2023) then Lies of P: Overture (June 6, 2025). Story uses fiction years—Overture is a prequel set before the Puppet Frenzy, but you unlock it late in the base campaign, so play order and lore order disagree on purpose. Essentials covers base-only, full release, and a lore-first Overture path. Souls neighbors: Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Elden Ring.

Pick Base only for P’s first Krat run, Base + Overture for the full 2026 package in ship order, or Lore: Overture first when you deliberately want fiction years on the Story tab after you understand unlock timing.

Release order

When Round8 / Neowiz shipped each Lies of P milestone in the US—Lies of P (September 19, 2023) then the Overture expansion (June 6, 2025, shadow-dropped during Summer Game Fest). Release is the practical buy path: own the base game first; Overture requires it. Bundles that include both are fine—still play the 2023 campaign before treating Overture as your opener unless you already know the unlock rules.

Story order tips

Fiction chronology puts Overture before the base Krat tragedy—it is a prequel about the city on the brink of the Puppet Frenzy. Play order usually still finishes most of the base game first because Overture unlocks late (around Chapter 9 territory). Use Story when you care about lore years; use Release when you care about what you can launch today.

Release order

Recommended: start Lies of P, play through until Overture unlocks (late campaign), then either finish Overture before the finale or complete the base ending first—both are valid. Brand-new players should not expect to boot Overture as a standalone prequel disc.

Story & Overture

Overture is a prequel in lore and a late unlock in play (commonly after advancing deep into the base chapters, often cited around Chapter 9). Finishing Overture can change some base-game side events. If you want a clean first ending uninterrupted, finish the base campaign first, then play Overture on that save or NG+—or enter when unlocked if you prefer lore context mid-run.

Difficulty & endings

It plays as a souls-like: tough bosses, stamina management, and learning perfect guards. Later patches (around the Overture launch window) added extra difficulty options and quality-of-life modes for more players—check your current build’s settings. Prior Bloodborne or Sekiro muscle memory helps; it is not required lore.

The base game has multiple endings tied to lies, humanity, and late key choices (often discussed as Free from the Puppet String / Rise of P / real-boy style outcomes—exact names spoil). All endings live in the same campaign; Overture can influence some side threads but does not replace the need to finish P’s main path. Avoid guides until you want a specific trophy ending.
