Release & story order

Resident Evil spin-off timeline

This page is for players who finished (or planned) the main Resident Evil saga and still wonder about Outbreak, Survivor, Chronicles, and the multiplayer experiments. Release lists those side titles from Survivor (2000) through Re:Verse (2022). Story only keeps the rows worth placing on a lore calendar—Raccoon City co-op, shaky side yarns, rail recaps, then alternate ORC—while marking most as optional. Revelations games stay on the Resident Evil timeline because they are campaign side stories Capcom still ships beside mainline. Films/shows: Resident Evil media.

Updated August 2026

Where to start

Choose Outbreak curiosity for File #1 (+ optional File #2). Choose Chronicles recap for Umbrella → Darkside rail games. Choose Skip spin-offs empty path mindset—use Hide optional on main RE instead.

  • Most players should spend time on Remakes, not this page’s full Release list
  • Resistance bundled with RE3 Remake is multiplayer-only—campaign still on the main page
  • Gaiden / Corps are footnote rows for historians

Release order

Ship dates for RE side projects: light-gun/hybrid shooters (Survivor, Dead Aim), Outbreak co-op, Wii Chronicles rail games, Operation Raccoon City, and later multiplayer (Umbrella Corps, Resistance, Re:Verse). Mainline + Remakes + Revelations are on the main RE page.

  • New to RE? Finish Remake-era mainline on the Resident Evil timeline before this page
  • Co-op curiosity: try Outbreak offline with AI—do not expect live servers
  • Lore dessert: Umbrella Chronicles then optional Darkside Chronicles
  • Skip Umbrella Corps / Re:Verse unless you specifically want those multiplayer modes
  • Operation Raccoon City is alternate fan chaos—not Remake homework
Story order tips

Optional lore calendar only: Outbreak (+ File #2) during Raccoon City → Survivor / Dead Aim side yarns → Chronicles recaps → ORC as an explicit alternate. Multiplayer titles are not Story-required.

  • Outbreak scenarios parallel RE2/RE3’s city week—they do not replace those campaigns
  • Chronicles are rail recaps with files—useful, not authoritative over Remakes
  • ORC contradicts mainline on purpose—keep it marked alternate
  • On Story order, optional rows may stay hidden until you reveal spoilers

FAQ

What counts as a spin-off, Outbreak vs Remakes, Chronicles value, ORC canon, and multiplayer skips.

Play order

No for a first saga. Finish Remake-era mainline first. If curious: one Outbreak offline run, or Umbrella Chronicles as a lore dessert. Skip light-gun PS1/PS2 curios and modern multiplayer unless that is specifically your hobby.

Canon & RC week

As a co-op curiosity, yes offline. Official servers are gone; AI partners remain. Scenarios enrich Raccoon City’s civilian angle but do not replace RE2/RE3 Remakes. File #2 is only for people who loved File #1’s loop.

Treat it as alternate / soft-ignore for Remake chronology. It rewrites RC-week beats for squad-shooter fantasy. Play for chaos co-op, not as required homework before Village.

What's excluded

Mainline campaigns, Remakes, and Revelations 1–2 live on the Resident Evil timeline. This page is side shooters, Outbreak, Chronicles, ORC, and multiplayer experiments only.
