Release order

When Supermassive shipped each horror adventure in the US—Until Dawn (2015), four Dark Pictures entries (2019–2022), The Quarry (2022), and Until Dawn Remake (2024).

  • First Supermassive horror → Until Dawn Remake (2024) or original Until Dawn (2015)
  • Anthology fans → Dark Pictures in release order (Medan → Little Hope → Ashes → Devil in Me)
  • The Quarry is standalone—play anytime after you like the formula
  • No required order between Until Dawn, Dark Pictures, and The Quarry
Story order tips

Each game is a standalone cast and plot—no shared story timeline across Until Dawn, Dark Pictures, or The Quarry. Story order mirrors Release here for historical context only, not fiction.

  • Zero narrative links—each game is its own slasher / thriller episode
  • Until Dawn Remake retells the 2015 story—do not play both for plot
  • Dark Pictures entries do not continue each other's characters
  • Story tab matches Release because there is no in-universe chronology

FAQ

Release order for Until Dawn, Dark Pictures, and The Quarry—no fiction chain, Remake vs original, and narrative-adventure cousins.

Release order

Release order is when Supermassive launched each game in the US (2015–2024). Story order lists the same entries because none of these games share a continuing plot—Until Dawn, each Dark Pictures chapter, and The Quarry are standalone casts. Pick any game first.

Recommended starter: Until Dawn Remake (2024) on PS5 or PC—it is the same story as 2015 Until Dawn with modern presentation. After that, play The Dark Pictures Anthology in release order (Man of Medan → Little Hope → House of Ashes → The Devil in Me) if you want the full set, plus The Quarry anytime as a standalone slasher.

Release order is the usual path: Man of Medan (2019) → Little Hope (2020) → House of Ashes (2021) → The Devil in Me (2022). There is no in-universe chronology requirement—you can skip weaker entries and jump to fan favorites like House of Ashes.

Story boundaries

No shared story. The Curator wraps Dark Pictures entries as an anthology host, but characters and plots do not continue between Man of Medan, Little Hope, House of Ashes, and The Devil in Me. The Quarry and Until Dawn are also separate worlds—skills transfer, lore does not.

Remake & platforms

Until Dawn Remake (October 4, 2024, PS5 / PC) retells the same Blackwood Mountain campaign with upgraded visuals and controls. New buyers should get the Remake only—you do not need the 2015 PS4 disc unless you collect legacy releases. This page keeps both Release rows for history.
